Summer Gathering Trends for Outdoor Living

June 22, 2021

Summer means spending time outdoors and for a lot of us, that means hanging out in your own backyard.

A backyard is more than just grass and a fence. It is an extension of your living space. No matter the size, backyards can be just as comfortable and functional as any of your interior spaces.

How do you make the most of your outdoor space? Here’s a few ideas to get you going.

Spend more time outside: If you’ve got a yard, you might as well use it! Get some comfy outdoor furniture that you actually want to sit on to make the space more inviting. Plant some flowers or start a vegetable patch. Start having meals outside, read a book in a hammock, just experience your outdoor space. The more time you spend there, the more you’ll start to see it as part of your home.

Blur the lines between indoor and outdoor: Turn your covered patio into a climate controlled area with Phantom retractable clear vinyl walls. Your view won’t be hindered and all the light will come through while keeping the wind and rain at bay. You can also add Phantom retractable screens to the doors leading out to your outdoor space. Double retractable screens look great with French doors and keep the air flowing in and the bugs out of your house.

Fire and water features: There’s nothing like sitting around a fire on a summer night, so look at putting in a fire pit or an outdoor fireplace. Depending what your outdoor set up is like, you can replicate your living room vibe outside, or keep things a bit more rustic.

If you feel calmer near water than fire, look at adding a small fountain to add the soothing sounds of flowing water to your outdoor space. Or if you’re feeling really ambitious, consider designating a corner of the yard for a koi pond to really play up the zen garden feel.

Feed your soul, and your friends: It’s common knowledge that food cooked outside just tastes better, so get yourself a good cooking setup in your outdoor space. This can be just a study table next to your barbecue, or going whole hog and setting up a full outdoor kitchen. You’ll be feeding everyone in the neighbourhood before you know it!
